Over the span of a month, a cohort of youthful enthusiasts delved into these inquiries, resulting in the development of an interactive sound installation dubbed "Sound Journey" or "Helirännak." Throughout their endeavour, these aspiring sound aficionados explored various sound art exhibitions and engaged with Estonian sound artists, who generously imparted their insights and techniques for capturing and manipulating sounds. Noteworthy contributors included Erik Alalooga, Taavi Suisalu, Mari-Liis Rebane, Liisa Hirsch, and Aivar Tõnso.
During their exploration, the participants gathered captivating audio snippets from nature, urban locales, and the studios of diverse sound artists, crafting a vibrant and eclectic sonic palette for their final creation.
"Sound Journey" was constructed using Viviware modules, specifically tailored to facilitate prototyping and ensure a gratifying experience for the young participants. The installation comprised multiple interactive components responsive to visitors' movements and touch, offering a medley of sounds and organic compositions. Additionally, volunteer Rasmus introduced the children to the fascinating realm of programming tool Max MSP, enriching the installation with a visual dimension.
The installation made its debut at both the "Ma Ei Saa Aru" sound art festival in Telliskivi Creative City and Children's Jazz Festival Kräsh. Attendees were invited to immerse themselves in an auditory odyssey, encountering novel and unexpected sonic fusions while becoming integral parts of the artwork. Through this endeavor, the budding artists aimed to underscore the significance of sound in our daily existence and encourage heightened attentiveness to the surrounding auditory landscape.
The project featured contributions from the following sound enthusiasts: Ralf-Stefan Mihkelsoo, Lukas Eliaser, Karl Rudolf Vöörmann, Jakob Saar, Emma Linda Källu, Matvei Balabonin, Lui Puik, Oliver Kõrgmaa, Mattias Ringo, Sarah Randnurm, Johann Aleksander Oot, Kirill Dmitriev, and Eneliis Raaga.
